SMU opens three new supermarkets in the Metropolitan Region and Magallanes.

SMU—parent company of Unimarc, Alvi and Super10—has completed the opening of two new stores in the Metropolitan Region and one in the Magallanes Region. These include a Unimarc in Las Condes and a Super10 in Colina, as well as an Alvi in Punta Arenas. With these openings, the company has reached 41 new stores in Chile as part of its 2023–2025 organic growth plan, including 14 openings in 2025.

The new Unimarc is located at 9350 Las Condes Avenue, in the Las Condes district, and features a sales area of 1,473 square meters. It offers a total of 13 checkout lanes, eight of which are self-checkout. The store is also a significant source of employment, with women accounting for 56% of its workforce.

“This new Unimarc reinforces our commitment to proximity and to enhancing our customers’ shopping experience. The store offers a broad, well-balanced, high-quality assortment that meets the everyday needs of families, including a strong presence of suppliers from our 100% Nuestro program, which allows us to highlight local and regional entrepreneurs across the country,” said Lionel Gubler, Unimarc Format Manager.

A new Super10 in Colina

In addition, SMU’s soft discount format, Super10, opened a new store in Colina. The store is located at Carretera General San Martín Antigua No. 066, Store 1, and features a 1,173-square-meter sales floor with six checkout lanes available to customers. More than 90% of the store’s workforce are residents of Colina, reinforcing local job creation by the supermarket group.

“With this new store—our second location in Colina—we aim to offer our customers a fast, convenient shopping experience at low prices, through a carefully selected assortment designed to meet their daily needs. We also feature a strong presence of our private labels, such as Merkat, Nuestra Cocina, Smart Clean and Amada Masa, which ensure quality products at competitive prices,” said Eduardo García, Super10 Format Manager.

The Punta Arenas wholesale store

This week also marked a significant milestone for Club Alvi Mayorista, which opened a store in Punta Arenas—the chain’s first in the Magallanes Region—representing one of its most important openings of the year.

The new store is located at 770 Eduardo Frei Montalva Avenue and has a total area of 1,711 square meters, with seven checkout lanes available to customers.

“Alvi is here to stay. Being present as a wholesale chain and as a relevant retail player in such an important region fills us with pride. We want to be partners to all merchants in the Magallanes Region, supporting local supply and continuing to grow together,” said Francisco Gaete, Alvi Format Manager.

From 2022 to date, Alvi has grown from 32 to 56 stores through conversions from the Mayorista 10 format and the opening of new locations. In this context, the chain expects to close 2025 with a total of 57 Alvi stores, with geographic coverage from Coquimbo to Magallanes.

Looking ahead, SMU plans to continue strengthening its territorial presence through new openings. Under its recently announced 2026–2028 Strategic Plan, the company expects to open 23 new Unimarc stores, 10 Super10 stores and five Alvi stores in Chile over the next three years, as well as carry out 80 store upgrades.
